It's not the other people's fault you lack the skills to recognise bad apples.

It always amuses me how people only ever come up with defensive measures.......

Oh no, I mean in context of trust. People always only come up with defensive measures, like checking APIs, not letting people access hangars... that kind of stuff.
On one side it amuses me, but on the other I know that the offensive measures are secrets well kept to ones self ... and worth dozens of billions up to pricelessness.
I am just happily observing what people have to say about this. ^_^

That's interesting ... but I don't really get it.
How is that an offensive measure?
I'm not into nullsec things. :)

Oh btw I can contribute a defensive measure.
Those who are liked by the most ... ... most often don't share all of their thoughts.
And another one is that one's use of language most often is his biggest weakness. This counts for both side of the equation.

Oh there's another thing certain people of certain professions like to abuse.
Trust isn't gained by giving something ... ... but by making the other person give you something.
I won't go into details... boring .....
Damn, I can't reach the ashtray. Could you random person please pass it over? :D
Hilarious fun fact about myself: When someone asks me for my lighter ... ... to light up a cigarette ... ... even when it's right next to me ... ... I just say No and ignore them.
Reactions are hilarious! XD

People who say "trust nobody" are making themselves easy targets, because they expose a lack of certain, universally applicable, social skills.
Keep going! :D

On some of my alts I join corps to help them out and get proficient at EVE and one of the first things I'll do is drop some "bait" so to speak, something worth 100-200 mil or so. I don't care about isk but I do care about my time so it's a pretty good test to see if they're worth my time and effort. If they do grab it I consider it cheap intel and simply leave or actually turn on them.
So far, from your own words, that doesn't earn you trust. It earns you the position of a person who likes to give.
Most oftenly such position doesn't make you trustworthy, but a target.
Guessing, I do assume you try to test who is trustworthy?
When you write "I drop some bait" you don't really explain what you are doing. Is it a can? Do you give it to them in station, via trade? etc etc.
If you care about people learning something from you with this, then you need to explain the situation, the context and your intention properly.

You are testing them! That's not the same as trying to manipulate someone into trusting you, though.
Tbh, it sounds quite of easy to spot, but I guess there's lots of talking that your post misses out here. :) I'd love to know more about how this worked out for you! (:

Reactions are hilarious! XD If i asked for a light and your lighter was just lying there and you said no. I'd just take it. If you can be a **** then so can i :D I'm not a **** for saying no. :) You are a **** for assuming that asking me gets you anything.
I'm seriously still waiting for that one sorry ass who takes it .........
